4.1 Non-ruminant diseases

4.1.1 Definition of terms

Disease

Infection

4.1.2 Types of non-ruminant diseases

Metabolic diseases result from disturbances in normal metabolic processes often linked to diet or physiological stress. Fatty liver syndrome in laying hens is a metabolic disorder caused by excessive energy intake and lack of exercise.

Zoonotic diseases

Diseases that can be transmitted between animals and humans pose dual challenges. Anthrax, though rare, can affect pigs and humans in certain Kenyan regions, requiring strict control measures to prevent outbreaks.
