■ Where this takes you

Social work skills are at the heart of building strong, healthy communities in Kenya. By mastering these skills, you open doors to meaningful careers where you can truly make a difference in people’s lives—whether you work for an organization, a county government, or even start your own initiative. Here’s where you’ll use these skills in real life:

  • County Governments & National Agencies: Work as a community development assistant, social worker, or youth officer in county social services, National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) offices, or the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
  • NGOs and CBOs: Join organizations like Red Cross Kenya, World Vision, or AMREF, helping to deliver essential services in health, education, and child protection.
  • Hospitals and Health Facilities: Support patient welfare and community outreach programs in county hospitals, mission hospitals, or health centers.
  • Schools & Educational Programs: Work with school-based mentorship, guidance and counseling, or support vulnerable children through school feeding and bursary programs.
  • Jua Kali & Informal Sector: Start your own community-based organization (CBO) or self-help group to address local issues—such as youth unemployment, women’s empowerment, or drug abuse prevention.
  • Agribusiness & Rural Development: Facilitate farmer groups or youth in agriculture through KTDA, county extension offices, or NGOs working in rural livelihoods.
  • Disaster Relief & Humanitarian Work: Assist in disaster response, psychosocial support, and community mobilization during floods, droughts, or other emergencies.
  • Private Sector CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility): Work with companies like Safaricom or KenGen in their community outreach and social investment programs.

By mastering social work skills, you’ll be ready to serve, lead, and create positive change—no matter where your journey takes you. Your compassion and expertise will help shape a better future for all Kenyans.
